What this is
Sessions
Every session starts with a conversation about what you want worked and what you want left alone. I don't have a fixed routine that I run on everyone; the work is built around what you and your body are feeling today.
60 minutes of hands-on time, plus up to 10 minutes for health history and check-in. Enough for a focused region like neck and shoulders or low back and hips, or a general full-body session at a steady pace. A good choice if you're new to massage, or if a longer stretch on the table is more than you want.
90 minutes of hands-on time, plus up to 10 minutes for health history and check-in. Full body massage with focused time in one or two areas; this is the right choice for chronic holding patterns that take longer to release, or for deep tissue work.
Three rates, same session. This is a sliding scale, but you don't have to ask for it. The rates are published, and you pick the one that fits where you are right now. The work is identical at every tier: same length, same attention, same me. You don't need to explain your situation or prove anything.
What the tiers mean. Sustaining is for people with room in the budget, and paying it is what keeps the community rate available for others. The community rate is for anyone for whom the standard rate is a stretch. Standard is standard.
Cancellation. 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule, please. 50% of session rate will be charged for less than 24 hours' notice; full rate charged for no-shows. If you are sick, please do not come in! You can reschedule at no charge.
Your first visit
If you've never had massage, or you've had massage that went badly, here is the whole thing start to finish. No surprises.
You'll get an intake form by email. If you'd rather not fill it out alone, we can go through it together when you arrive. I'm glad to write it down for you.
Read the intake form first PDFIntake form can be completed beforehand, or at the studio.
Clothed, sitting up. What hurts, what you want, what you'd rather I didn't touch. You can name areas to avoid without giving a reason. This takes up to ten minutes the first time and is shorter after that, and it's on top of your session rather than part of it. A 90-minute appointment is 90 minutes of hands-on work.
Once I've stepped out, you undress to whatever level you're comfortable with and get on the table under the sheet. You keep on whatever you want to keep on; plenty of people stay partly clothed, and we can still easily work together.
Only the area I'm working on is uncovered, and it's re-covered before I move on. If you'd like me to tell you before I move to a new area, just ask.
Change the pressure, the music, or the amount of talking. Ask me to skip an area, or to stop entirely, without giving a reason.
Water, any feedback or questions, and notes on anything worth doing at home. When you pay, the listed price is the actual price: no tipping, no additional fees or add-ons.
About
Before getting my massage therapy license, I worked in defense investigation, restorative justice, and as a social worker. I've been interested in somatic therapy and yoga practices for many years, and my prior careers trained me to listen carefully and pay attention to both what people said verbally, and what their bodies were communicating.
I'm excited to get to know you and work with your unique body and needs.
I'm licensed in Louisiana and trained in Swedish massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, hot stones, PNF stretching, and Thai elements.
